PowerEdge R760 FAQs

Question 1

Does the R760 maximum of eight PCIe slots mean every unit has eight full-bandwidth x16 slots?

Accepted Answer

No. Slot count, lanes, card height and card length depend on the riser and air-shroud configuration. Select the risers for the required NICs, storage adapters and GPUs, then confirm usable slots. The platform maximum is not the installed configuration of every SKU.

Question 2

Does a PCIe x16 slot make a consumer GPU a supported upgrade for R760?

Accepted Answer

No. Dell specifies validated GPUs and states that consumer-grade GPUs should not be installed or used in enterprise servers. The applicable GPU air shroud, full-length riser and power cable must also match. Validate the complete R760 GPU configuration rather than the connector alone.
